2017 MAZDA CX5 GRAND TOURING AWD REVIEW

OK Sassy Peeps,

If you know me, you know that I have ALWAYS had a slight obsession with Mazda! Why? Well there are a few reasons. One of those reasons is that the brand pretty much outdoes itself with each redesign. Two, their vehicles are SUPER spunky and SUPER sassy.

Like I stated above, I am obsessed with the brand as a whole, but there are a few vehicles in their line up that makes me do a happy dance and the CX5 tops the chart. The second-generation Mazda CX5 compact crossover / SUV is sexy, affordable and large enough to fit your family, your shopping bags and your gear comfortably. #GottaLoveIt! mazda cx5

mazda cx5This years model is snazzier than ever! While testing I noticed a few obvious and a few NOT so obvious changes or should I say improvements.

Obvious:

  • The cabin, which in my opinion has always been a bit classier than most of its competitors, now offers a little more head and legroom.
  • It is noticeably quieter. Both my mom and I noticed how quiet it was compared to the previous year (2016) (freeway and residential).
  • Rear seats are a lot more roomier and comfortable. I am 5’7 and was super comfortable. However, if you are 6 feet or above you will probably be more comfortable sitting up front.
  • Rear back seats fold completely flat.

Not so obvious:

  • Mazda made subtle improvements to the exterior making it sharper and more sleek.
  • The previously optional Skyactiv 2.5-liter I-4 becomes the new base engine.
  • Power is upped from 184 hp to 187 hp, but torque is unchanged at 185 lb-ft.

  • Height adjustable driver’s seat
  • Rain Sensing Wipers
  • Middle Console
  • Noticeably quieter cabin
  • 12-volt power outlets a/k/a car cigarette lighter/12V auxiliary power outlets
  • Mazda Connect infotainment system
  • Exceptional Bose® 10-speaker audio system with Centerpoint2® and AudioPilot2®
  • SMS text message audio delivery and reply

  • Push Button Start
  • Mazda Advanced Keyless Entry
  • The user-friendly hands-free lift-gate

NEED A LITTLE FIX!

  • I love this vehicle. However, it is not that quick and at times when I hit the gas to accelerate there was a slight lag (4 cylinder). Hint: I kept the vehicle in sport mode pretty much the entire time. That definitely helped it out a bit.

Thanks for your review. My wife and I are going all in on a Grand Touring in the Soul Red for her tomorrow. Drove all the other competitor’s offerings and my wife liked the Mazda the best (aside from the Lexus NX200t, that is). She had previously been a Honda only girl, but this CX-5 is a nice ride and provides a lot of nice features at a decent price. We have an 11 year old and a 14 year old and they were able to ride in the back with plenty of leg room. Should serve our family well. Thanks again.
