Hey Sassy Peeps!

If you’re craving beachy fun on the West Coast, then you should consider Long Beach. Located just 25 miles from the center of Los Angeles, Long Beach is one of the biggest coastal retreats for residents of this busy area. Before you book your trip to this city, here are a few things to consider if you’re a first-time visitor.

Prepare for the Sun

For those craving sun in the dead of winter, Long Beach is a great bet, as the city has 345 days of sunny weather a year. Not only that, but temperatures rarely drop below 45 degrees at any point of the year. Highs in the summer range from 70 to 80, while highs in the winter hover around 70. While this sunny weather is great for improving your seasonal effective disorder, just be careful you don’t get too much sun. Remember your sunscreen, stay hydrated, and wear a hat and sunglasses.

Keep an Eye Out for Cruises

Believe it or not, Long Beach is one of the most trafficked ports in America. This means that a lot of cruise ships roll through town, making the harbor an interesting place to people-watch as boats come and go. If you’re feeling a bit of ocean fever, you can even book passage on your own whale watching, harbor, or blues cruise to experience the local waters and get a taste of the open sea. Also consider stopping by the Queen Mary, which is a permanently docked boat that includes restaurants, accommodations, and other events.

Stay Away From the 405

If you’re traveling by car, you might be tempted to drive into Long Beach by taking the 405. This California highway stretches from north of Los Angeles, past the Los Angeles International Airport, and down into Long Beach. Unfortunately, while it might look like the quickest way into the city on a map, it’s far from fast. This highway is known for constant traffic jams at any time of day or night, so do your part in finding an alternative route if you don’t want to sit in traffic.

Use Public Transportation

Long Beach has several great public transportation options to help you get around town. The Passport Shuttle is a free downtown shuttle that carries visitors to a number of tourist hotspots before looping around. There are also Aqua-bus and Aqua-link services in the summer, which are shuttles and water taxis that take you along the beach.

Book Hotels Ahead of Time

In order to save the most money possible, you should always book your hotel as early as possible. This gives you the most selection and also gives you access to deals that you might not have with a last-minute booking. You’ll be able to find accommodations that have the amenities and location that you crave.

With all of these tips in mind, you’ll have no problem coming up with a killer itinerary for Long Beach. All you’ll have to do is put on your sunglasses and enjoy the warm breeze blowing through your hair.

So Sassy Peeps, how do you prepare for a trip to Long Beach? Inquiring minds want to know!
