Happy Holidays Sassy Peeps,
This past week I had the opportunity of spending some well deserved time with my Michigan family and it sure was nice. Although I did eat a bit too much while there I am not going to complain. I haven’t had the pleasure of hanging out with them for the holidays in years so it was well worth it.
A few days into the visit, my brother and I decided to create a dish that reminded us of a delicious, yet very simple dish that our mom used to make when we were younger. Since she never gave it a name we decided, Stella® Holiday Gourmet Cheese Bread would be perfect.
After making the list of the ingredients needed, we headed to our nearest grocery store. The first few ingredients on the list was a container of Stella® Asiago Cheese and a block of the Stella® Fontina Cheese. We knew that blending the two would be a perfect combination.
From there we grabbed everything else on our list and headed home to make this dish like mom used to make. LOL! Don’t tell her I said that! 🙂
Stella Holiday Gourmet Cheese Bread Recipe
This cheese bread dish is quick, easy and great comfort food. Asiago and Fontina cheese, basil and pesto, baked on top of Italian bread and topped with green onions, takes about 20 minutes to make and is always a hit with the family.
Ingredients
- 1 loaf of Italian bread
- Sun-dried tomato pesto
- 6 basil leaves
- 2 cups Asiago Medium Cheese, shredded
- 1 block of Stella Fontina Cheese, sliced
- 3 green onions, chopped
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees
- Cut bread into slices
- Spread pesto
- Place 1 basil leaf on each piece of bread
- Cover each piece of bread with slices of Stella Fontina Cheese
- Add shredded cheese on top of other ingredients
- Place cheese bread on a baking pan
- Put the pan in oven for 7 minutes
- Turn oven on broil for the last 3 minutes (NOTE: Broil has to be on 425).
- Once done, sprinkle a few chopped green onions on top.
- Enjoy!!!!
Before serving, I suggest topping it with a little extra seasoning of choice. Additionally, the green onions are optional. Our family loves onions and think they are an added bonus, but the dish is just as delicious without.
