Happy Holidays Sassy Peeps!
It was so exciting to spend Thanksgiving with my Michigan family. My mom and I hadn’t seen them in what felt like ages so we were pretty stoked. The only thing I was concerned about was the weather. I have been in Florida for over six years now, so I was convinced that I would be extremely cold and uncomfortable. Well, I was completely wrong. It was about 45 degrees during the day and there was no snow in sight, so I was extremely happy.
My mom and I arrived in Detroit the morning of Thanksgiving, grabbed the 2019 Toyota Camry XSE V6 from QWIK Parking and made our way to our hometown, Battle Creek. Needless to say, we had a wonderful time not only getting reacquainted with the family but also visiting several cool and historic sites.
Although I have to admit, it wasn’t until I moved out of state that I actually started to appreciate the importance of several of these landmarks.
Keep reading to see what I mean…

Let’s Go Places (Battle Creek)
Leila Arboretum
Leila Arboretum dates back to 1922. It is 72 acres of an arboretum and garden located at 928 West Michigan Avenue, Battle Creek, Michigan. Leila Post Montgomery, the widow of cereal magnate C.W. Post, donated the land to the city of Battle Creek, envisioning a center for culture amid the beauty of nature. (Source)
Interesting facts right???? Well, when I found this out I had to LOL, because until recently when I thought of Leila Arboretum the only things that came to mind were beautiful land, the Kingdom Museum and where we would come to slide during the winter. #KnowledgeIsKey!
Although, this goes to show that Leila’s vision definitely came true because everything that came to my mind was what she hoped for in a sense.
NOTE: Open to the public.
Cereal City Tattoo and Piercing, LLC.
This really cool Tattoo shop caught my eye when I noticed the image of Tony the Tiger on the side of the building. It is located at, 537 Columbia Ave W, Battle Creek, MI 49015 and totally represents the Battle Creek A/K/A Cereal City.
We didn’t go inside because unfortunately, it was closed, but the outside of the building was to cool to pass up. If anyone knows the artist, please let me know. I would love to give them credit.

Let’s Go Places (Detroit)
We didn’t spend much time in Detroit, but while there we made sure we visited family and went to more historic and cool landmarks.
First stop Comerica Park!
Comerica Park
Comerica Park, located at 2100 Woodward Avenue, Detroit, MI 48201-3470, is one of the many highlights of Downtown Detroit. Since I have been gone from Michigan for so long this was my first time seeing it up close, and I have to say it didn’t disappoint.
My God, it is amazing! That entrance is totally EPIC and sooooo Instagrammable. I snapped so many shots, my fingers started to hurt! HAHA!
Note: Accessible to everyone.
Motown Museum
While in Detroit I wanted to ensure that I stopped by Motown Museum. Located at 2648 West Grand Boulevard, Detroit, MI, and the home to several Motown artifacts, photographs, and other memorabilia. The Museum’s mission, which is presented below, is to preserve the legacy of Motown Record Company and to educate and motivate people, especially youth.
NOTE: Motown Records’ establishment in 1959 by Berry Gordy, is one of Southeast Michigan’s most popular tourist destinations. “Hitsville U.S.A.” is the nickname given to Motown’s first headquarters. (Source)
Fox Theater
I have to tell you guys that I have had some of the best experiences at the Fox theater and seen some of the most amazing plays/comedy shows, like the Marvin Gaye Story, a few of Madea’s adventures, Kat Williams, David Chappelle, and the list goes on and on. If you ever get a chance please go and experience it for yourself. #TotallyEpic!
Located at 2211 Woodward Ave, Detroit, MI 48201, the preservation of this theater is one of Detroit’s proudest achievements. The 5048-seat palace of the arts, arguably the most opulent in the nation when it opened in 1928, was designated a national landmark in 1989. (Source)
Uniroyal Tire
I had to grab a pic of the Uniroyal Giant Tire! I always know I am home when I see it.
The Uniroyal Giant Tire was created by the Uniroyal Tire Company for the 1964 New York World’s Fair, where it functioned as a Ferris wheel. Since 1966 it has served as a static display in Allen Park, Michigan, alongside Interstate 94, between the Southfield Freeway interchange and Outer Drive overpass. (Source)
