Generally speaking, men tend to have it easier. At least as far as road trips are concerned. You see, some men think it’s perfectly normal not to shower for three days while on the road, whereas we, women, have to take the whole road trip thing more seriously. After all, how are you supposed to enjoy a fun and rewarding adventure with the girls when you roll up into another city looking like you’ve, well, not showered for three days.
Unacceptable. But basic hygiene is not the only problem we have to solve while prepping for an outdoor adventure. Here is a girl guide that lists several essential must dos every girl needs to tend to before taking a road trip.
The essential provisions
First things first, your provisions need to correspond with the destination. For instance, if you plan on taking an Australian road trip, you need something light for the road like fruits, veggies, and plain water. Because of the incessant heat permeating the country pretty much non-stop, you want to stay hydrated at all times, so don’t forget an ice box to keep your food and drinks cold.
However, if you’re headed on a winter escapade somewhere north, then you should pack calorie-dense foods to keep you warm, as well as a thermos – nobody likes drinking cold coffee, especially not on the road in the middle of, let’s say, snowy Canada. So, research the climate in the region and consider your provisions carefully.
Clothes, makeup, and hygiene for every occasion
No matter if you plan to go from city to city or stick to the natural sceneries, you need to be prepared for every occasion. So don’t think that just because you’re headed into the outback you won’t be spending a night in a quaint little town or that you won’t take a sudden detour to visit a bustling city along the way.
Have a set of clothes at the ready for a fun night out, for those cozy evenings spent camping by the fire, and for trekking and hiking around the wilderness. This also means that you should bring your makeup kit just in case, and that you need to have your hygiene essentials with you as well. Invest in some dry shampoo and thank me later.
Have a mechanic prep your car
Packing is super important, but prepping the car for the road ahead is imperative. You should not leave the city if you haven’t taken your car to a mechanic for a thorough inspection. After all, you never know what could happen on the road, and you don’t want to get stranded in the middle of nowhere – which is, actually, what I narrowly avoided on my road trip.
We were going to drive the eastern coast of Australia all the way from Brisbane to Sydney, and then explore the Great Pacific Drive to Melbourne, but we weren’t about to do it before having our car checked first. Long story short, we had a friendly mobile mechanic from Brisbane come to our address and perform a swift maintenance check. And a good thing too, because it looks like we would have lost a spark plug not five minutes out of town. So, if I can impart any wisdom on you, it’s to have a mobile mechanic on speed dial, just in case.
Don’t forget your trusty gadgets
We can’t possibly part with our favorite tech gadgets, not even when we go on an outdoor adventure. In fact, having your gadgets close at hand might turn out to be lifesaver out on the road. So make sure you bring your smartphone, solar-powered chargers, portable Wi-Fi, and, of course, a quality camera for documenting those wonderful moments and the natural wonders you encounter along the way.
You’ll need your road safety gear as well
Finally, there are some things your car should not be without while out on the road. While you might find it difficult to jack up a car and change the tire yourself if need be, you need to be prepared for such a scenario. Hey, it’s the 21st century, women can do everything men can. So be sure to bring a spare tire, a car jack, a basic tool kit, a flashlight, and a first aid kit. You can also pick up a car safety kit with all the essentials already packed.
A road trip is by far the most exciting way to experience different cultures, regions, and countries; but it does require thorough planning and preparation. No worries, though, you can use this simple guide to plan an amazing road trip you and your friends will cherish forever.
So Sassy Peeps, do you refer to a girl guide of must do’s before heading out on a road trip? Inquiring minds want to know!
