When it comes to fashion, Scandinavia is not playing any games. The Oslo Fashion Week was truly a breath of fresh air as it showcased all of Norway’s best designers, and we can’t wait to jump on board the train and enjoy their unique creativity. While the whole event was entirely magical and fun, today we’ll be focusing on the street style simply because it inspired us the most. Smart dressing, unusual pops of colors, and amazing footwear are coming your way, so get ready and let’s dive into some fabulous fashion!
All about coats
Oh boy, the coats were a huge thing for the season, and they were all positively stunning. The trends clearly call for a long, statement coat to rock every day, and we’re loving the idea of really investing in a high-quality piece. Cashmere and woolen coats, occasionally a trench, and all of it both in easy-to-wear neutrals, and statement colors. We’re leaning more towards picking something that grabs the attention and holds it, simply because that way you’ll have an eye-catching outfit every day. A statement coat also screams elegance, so ladies who wish to enjoy their inner diva should definitely find some good outwear.
Plenty of boots on the street! From Doc Martens to ankle boots, the Norwegians clearly love their footwear. One of the more prominent trends were definitely tall, pointed boots, and we love the sheer sexy vibe they give off. You can wear them with miniskirts to show off your legs, but you can also pair them with skinny jeans for a more urban feel. The shoes don’t have to be neutral either – we’ve seen bright red, pure white, and even metallic versions. You’ve got plenty of fun coming your way.
Patterns and neutrals
An old fashion trick that’s being used in a new way. Instead of sticking to neutrals and picking one statement patterned piece, we’re now doing it the other way around. Striped shirts, blazers, and even scarves, and then a pair of nude-colored, straight leg pants can perfectly offset the look, so play around with things you’ve got in your closet and get creative.
Sandals, skirts, and knits
Feminine, sophisticated, and utterly stylish, we’ve seen a lot of gloriously soft knit sweaters to go around. Pick something in a creamy nude or burgundy color, and then pair it with a mid-length skirt. Keep the theme of using soft materials going by finding a skirt made out of silk, and wrap a little square scarf around your neck for a nice little details. Don’t forget to finish it off with a pair of delicate leather sandals and you’ll get that gorgeous elegance down to a t.
There was a surprising absence of big bags on the streets. Most women wore cute clutches or smaller handbags, but we did also see a lot of athleisure-inspired waist bags all around. Get your clutch out of the closet and practice carrying only the most essential items with you.
We didn’t think dad sneakers would last as long as they are, but they’re still going strong as one of the most prevalent trends all around. What’s more, athleisure is slowly bleeding into elegant fashion, so we’ve seen plenty of unexpected pairs such as long floral dresses, and big, chunky sneakers. You want to pick shoes that really catch the eye, and while the retro white sneaker is definitely having its moment, you can also go for something colorful to pair with your sleek neutrals. Wear it with skirts, with dresses, with jeans, but also wear it to the gym – who’s stopping you?
Pantsuits are still favored in the fashion world, and there were plenty of them in Oslo. The general philosophy around wearing a good suit is to keep accessories minimal and let the garment do all the work on its own. Masculine and loose cuts were a lot more popular than anything skintight, but you can easily pick a more structured jacket if you prefer to have a defined waist.
The best thing about Scandinavian style is that it’s unfussy, elegant, and at least somewhat gender-defying. Plenty of garments are there just to be creative, and street style is all about looking casually good. If you like what they showed us in Oslo feel free to cherry pick your favorite trends and incorporate them into your own wardrobe!
