*Disclosure: The 2020 Mazda CX-30 (subcompact SUV) was provided to me for testing purposes and editorial consideration. All opinions are 100% my own*
Mazda definitely has a knack of setting themselves apart from the competition. Their innovative design and attention to detail puts them in a class all their own.
If you guys don’t already know, I am a huge fan of the brand and was pretty stoked when I found about the FIRST-EVER 2020 Mazda CX-30 Subcompact SUV.
Not sure about you guys, but I was curious about the name, CX-30. Since the subcompact SUV falls right between the CX-3 and CX-5, why not CX-4 instead?
Well in a perfect world, that would be ideal. However, there’s already a CX-4 crossover that’s available exclusively in China. Since there is no evident plans to discontinue, replace, or rename that Chinese model, Mazda needed another name that would fit, so they assigned this subcompact, CX-30. #InterestingFact
In Terms Of Size:
- CX-3 = 168.3-inch
- CX-30 = 173-inch
- CX-5 = 179.1-inch
Cute car ✔, cute luggage ✔! This First-Ever Subcompact SUV is definitely road trip ready!
After driving the CX-30 for a few days I was ready to put it to the test and hit the road. I decided taking a mini road trip was just what I needed to not only experience the SUV, but to also take some time out for myself. This year has been a dozy, so I figured why not redirect my attention to something more positive.
Keep scrolling to check out 5 Reasons this Subcompact SUV is perfect for road tripping…
1. Sleek and Comfortable Cabin
This subcompact 5-passenger crossover is ideal for long road trips. The cabin is sleek, and (despite it being categorized as a subcompact) it is extremely accommodating. Some of the many cabin comfort features that make this crossover great for road trips are:
- Adjustable headrests
- 8-way power driver’s seat with power lumbar support
- 60/40 split fold-down rear seat-back for passengers.
Additionally, I love that there is amble legroom, along with 2 USB audio inputs and a 12-volt power outlet. I don’t know about you guys, but in order for me to remain comfortable I need to stay connected, especially when I am on the road. There is nothing worse then your phone dying due to lack of ports or a faulty charger while road tripping. Trust me I have been there and I felt like I was going insane.
2. Full-Color Active Driving Display
This innovative pop-up display feature reminds me of a video game. It allows the driver to view vital information without having to shift their focus away from the road. Stats that can be projected onto the Active Driving Display are:
- Vehicle Speed
- Cruise Control
- Turn-By-Turn Directions
- Distance and Lane Guidance
- Lane Departure Warning System
- Smart City Brake Support
3. Mazda CONNECT Infotainment System
As stated above, staying connected is extremely important on and off the road. That’s why it’s always good to road trip in a vehicle that’s filled with innovative technology, like the First-Ever 2020 CX-30.
The Mazda CONNECT Infotainment System that comes equipped in the subcompact SUV is designed to keep you informed, comfortable, and entertained while in route.

4. Bose Premium Sound System
You guys already know that I am a music lover. So it is ideal that the audio system in any vehicle that I experience is on point. Well needless to say the Mazda CX-30 totally has that covered. The Bose 12 speaker premium audio system is entertaining and great company when taking solo long trips.
5. Generous Cargo Space/Rear Power Liftgate
OK…I have a confession! I am a bit obsessed with the generous amount of cargo space/Rear Power Liftgate that comes equipped on this CX-30.
While loading my luggage in the vehicle, I noticed that the low platform, along with the amble cargo space/power liftgate made my life so much easier. I slide my bags in with ease and once done, clicked the power liftgate button on the key-fob and the gate closed automatically. Easy Peezy!
Note: There is also a power liftgate button located directly next to the latch on the trunk. Hitting this button will automatically close the gate as well.
