We love the holidays! Not only can we finally relax and forget about work for a while, but we also get a chance to spend some quiet time with our families. On the other hand, as joyful it is to spend the season surrounded with your family, there are those who couldn’t wait for some time off so they could hop on a plane and head out there. If you’re one of the lucky ones who’ll be spending the holidays abroad, we give you a list of five perfect outfits to stay comfy and look chic.

Layering is the key

When you plan to spend your holidays in a colder destination, you should keep one thing in mind: layers are lifesavers! Cute cardigans, warm shawls, wool coats, and stylish pants that hide a pair of thermal underwear will allow you the comfort to be warm while still looking stylish. In addition to wearing layers, you should also think about the following: will you be walking around or do you plan to stay indoors most of the time? For those who are adventurous, make sure you pack a pair of very warm wool socks and comfy boots, having cold feet for a long time will certainly result in you actually catching a cold and your holiday will be ruined.

Exotic destination essentials

Packing for warmer destinations is usually easier: swimsuits and flip-flops all the way! Beach kaftans are the best as they allow you to cover up on your way to the swimming pool or the beach without making you feel warmer than you already are. Depending on the length of your stay, elegant Contessa Volpi luxury swimwear (make sure you pack both bikinis and one-piece swimsuits) will do the trick, and you can always wear your bikini top instead of a bralette under a loose fitting tee. Try to wear clothes made of natural materials such as linen and cotton as these will allow your skin to breathe even when you’re covered.

Staying warm

Those who want to experience the joys of winter abroad should do a bit of research on the weather at the intended destination. Winters aren’t the same in all of Europe and those planning to go north to Scandinavian countries better brace themselves and pack plenty of warm pieces such as long-sleeved pajamas and wool socks and shawls. South might be cold but not as much as the north, yet you shouldn’t go unprepared. Mediterranean countries can be windy in winter and while it might not always snow, it can often rain, so a coat with a hood and an umbrella are a good choice for keeping warm too, as are knee-high boots and ear muffs for those who don’t want to ruin their hairstyles.

Comfy on a plane

Packing for warmer a destination can be made easier with detailed packing lists and research, but you still have to think about the weather in your home country and take into account that you’ll spend some time on the plane. It can’t be denied that leggings are widely regarded as traveling uniforms, and you can always dress up or down based on the length of your trip and your final destination. Key pieces to wear (or have in your carry-on) include a simple neutral coat, a fuzzy warm sweater, comfy tee if your flight is truly brief, slightly stretchy jeans, and a pair of flat sandals or trendy sneakers.

Long flight experts

We already mentioned five key pieces for flights, but when it comes to long flights, make sure you pack a bit more. You will probably take your shoes off at some point, so a pair of fuzzy socks will keep your feet warm under those thin blankets. Another great piece to keep close is an oversized hoodie, as you can wear a simple tee underneath and yet stay warm. If the hood is big enough, you can always put it on and draw it over your eyes so you can sleep better. Of course, you can always opt for a big, warm shawl instead, if you’re aiming for a more sophisticated look.

It doesn’t matter where you’re going, one thing should be your number one priority: that you’re comfortable! After that, you can think about the style and elegance, you can experiment and improvise as much as you’d like. Sometimes, knowing that your outfit will allow you to get settled in the plane, train, ship, bus, or car for long hours is worth settling for the second-best choice.
