Hello and welcome to another educated span of time with Tech with Sasha.
Since the invention of the wheel, man has sought to create an easier way to get things done. This often results in different tools or assistance for workers to get the finished product done faster. The invention of robotics and advanced engineering brought yet another tool at the hands of man and womankind. But there was a dark horizon when the first robot was created. A sense of foreboding that would see the living worker replaced with the mechanical one. As we enter into the year 2021, let’s look at some of the advances that are becoming more mainstream.
Are Robots the reason our summer jobs are leaving?
Set it and Forget it
From cleaning our floors to mowing our lawns, the routine robotic helper is ever-expanding its availability to the American household. Most people have at least heard of the infamous Roomba vacuum by iRobot. The once laughed at cleaning machine is now almost commonplace in most homes. But what about outside the house? Well, there’s a robot for that as well now. And they are popping up in surprising places

Earlier this year PC Magazine published a jaw-dropping article about this very topic and I was floored at the capability and versatility of the machines/robots available right now. Lawn services can run an average of $100 per cutting which can equate to $400 a month and that kind of money adds up fast.
Another Summer Job goes bye-bye
Belrobotics is bringing game-changing robotic options right now! They boast a mowing robotic line that can handle up to a whopping 120 acres of land. The gamechanger is this company is making a line of robotic options with golf courses and sporting clubs/fields in mind. With the “BigMow” robotic lawnmower, it has the capability to conquer an entire golf course all on its own. With various sensors and the ability to preprogram mowing patterns and times, this machine offers a set it and forget it option.

Belrobotics isn’t stopping at just keeping the green pristine. They also have a Ballpicker robot available. Gone is the need to employ human drivers to spend hours and hours behind the wheel of a range picker. The Ballpicker is the autonomous option for the cost-cutting golf course. It can travel along up to 80 acres and collect stray golf balls. Using sensors to find them and maneuver the open terrain.

Now right now Belrobotics is not available in the USA. However, there are a few options that are already in place on US golf ranges. The Echo Robotics Range Picker is alive and working right now on a number of golf courses right now. While they can only do up to 6 acres, they are impressive enough to convince over 165 different ranges to make the human to robotic switch.
Robots: Comfort or Chaos

So for some of us, these new robots will mean more time to relax. Time to work on our tan and not work up a sweat. But for others, these robotic alternatives are a direct threat to a life long way of life. So which side are you on? I would love to hear from you.
